So yes, hello. Hopefully you’re here because you too are a fan of the sound of leather on willow (or cheap Sports Direct stumps) on a sunny summer’s afternoon.
- We don’t play in a league.
- We don’t have annual subs.
- We don’t take it too seriously.
- We don’t laugh if you fail to let go of the ball when you attempt to bowl (yes, it’s happened).
- We don’t allow sledging… apart from when your own teammate gets out to the first ball of the entire season.
- We do have a lovely time playing cricket, having a cold beer and making friends.
Some matches are afternoon 40 over affairs, and others are weekday evening T20 adventures. The matches range in location from Regent’s Park to Raynes Park and then the odd match at beautiful places like Marlow, Henley and Oxford.
Speaking from my own personal experience, I joined the club about 8 years ago having not played since I was about 12 years old. I was (and arguably still am) absolutely hopeless… but I now count numerous CICC players as some of my best friends. I’m also the worst bowler in history to have ever gotten a hat-trick.
If you’re at all interested, please do drop us a line or some say hello at one of our matches and see what it’s all about. Village cricket sadly faces an uncertain future due to falling numbers of players, so please help keep this wonderfully English tradition alive and get involved.
Thanks for stopping by.
Josh.
